For Metro Detroit residents who are not traveling on Labor Day weekend, there’s a number of festivals, walks and other activities happening in the area.

Clarkston

• First Congregational Church Labor Day Car Show & Fair is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 5 at 5449 Clarkston Road, Clarkston, antiques, food trucks, vendors, inflatables, 248-394-0200, facebook.com/fcclarkston.

Detroit

• Detroit International Jazz Festival is Sept. 2-5, downtown Detroit, free admission. For artists lineup, visit detroitjazzfest.org.

Franklin

• Franklin Community Association’s Labor Day Round Up is 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 5, downtown Franklin with a parade at noon, Art in the Village fine art fair is 10 a.m.-5 p.m., live music, inflatables, petting farm, magic show, jugglers, interactive circus, midway games, food by Leo’s Coney Island of West Bloomfield, classic car display, and dog rescue, facebook.com/franklincommunityassociation.

Hamtramck

• Hamtramck Labor Day Festival is noon to 10 p.m., Sept. 3-5. Parade is 1:30 p.m. Sept. 5, music, food, artists, Hamtramck Yacht Club Canoe Races. Activities are at Joseph Campau from Caniff north to approximately Carpenter, Hamtramck, hamtownfest.com, free admission.

Holly

• The Michigan Renaissance Festival weekends are through Oct. 2 at 12600 Dixie Hwy., Holly, michrenfest.com. Themed weekends each weekend, including Vikings Invasion, Sept. 3-through Labor Day, Sept. 5.

New Baltimore

• Annual Art on the Bay is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 3-4, Walter & Mary Burke Park, downtown New Baltimore, 810-394-1570, arts and crafts and food vendors, music, www.artonthebay.com.

Novi

• Michigan State Fair Labor Day Weekend is Sept. 1-5 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, michiganstatefairllc.com, featuring carnival, fair, agriculture, livestock and indoor vendor booths, live music, beer tent, and fair food. The Moovin’ thru the Midway 5K, benefiting Military Families United, is 8 a.m. Sept. 4, www.michiganstatefairllc.com/5k. The Shrine Circus, benefiting the Shriners Hospitals for Children, is Sept. 2-6, with performance times at noon, 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., final circus performance is at 5 p.m. Sept. 5, michiganstatefairllc.com/shrine-circus. Admission is $10+, circus and carnival rides extra. Hours are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sept. 1-2, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Sept 3-4 and 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Sept. 5. No unaccompanied minors allowed to enter the fair after 6 p.m.

Rochester

• Paint Creek Trailways Commission is hosting its 15th annual Labor Day Walk and Run, Sept. 5 at the Rochester Municipal Park Kiwanis Pavilion. The community event features two options: a one mile family-friendly walk or a 5K roundtrip walk or run on the Paint Creek Trail. Onsite registration begins at 8 a.m., and the event starts at 9 a.m. The event is free with a suggested donation of $5 to support capital improvements on the trail.
