Four Emporia High athletic teams are in action on Tuesday.

Only one team, the Emporia High boys soccer team, will be competing at home. After playing their first five games on the road, the Spartans will face Topeka-Hayden for their home opener.

Coach Victor Ibarra says the Spartans have another challenge in front of them.

Senior Francesco Sforza, who is a foreign exchange student from Italy, says he’s excited to play in front of the home crowd.

He added that soccer has its similarities and differences to how it’s played in the United States and in Italy.

Kickoff is set for 6:15 p.m. at Emporia High School.

The Emporia High girls tennis team will be participating in a dual at Andover Central.

Darian Chadwick says she’s seen some improvement over the course of the first three tournaments of the season.

Matches begin at 3 p.m. in Andover.

The Emporia High girls golf team travels to Newton.

Freshman Elise Eckert says it’ll be a challenge to play a new course she hasn’t played at.

Tuesday’s tournament is set for 3 p.m. at Sand Creek Golf Course in Newton.

The Emporia High gymnastics team heads to Olathe for a meet that begins at 6 p.m.
