COMMON THREADS

WOOL: A Contemporary Fiber Art Exhibition at Twiggs Gallery showcases artists working with fiber in completely different ways. Wool fiber incorporated into the artwork is the common thread but that is where the similarity ends. Sculpture, tapestry, assemblage, mixed media, rug hooking and weaving all play into the mix. Additional techniques such as felting, knitting, crochet, hand-dying, embroidery, beading and sewing embellish many of the pieces. Some artists have repurposed garments into their work. Each artist has a unique approach to using fiber as their medium.
The exhibition opens with an Artists’ Reception on June 4, from 1 to 3 p.m. at 254 King St., in Boscawen. Participating artists are Lisa Almeida, Pam Bartlett, Helen Fitzgerald, Laura Morrison, Emily Manning-Mingle, Breanne Marie Sherwood, Rachel Montroy, Ellen Solari and Danielle Tworek. The exhibit runs through Sept. 2.
Additional fiber-focused activities will occur throughout the summer at Twiggs Gallery starting with Arts Fest on June 25. Lisa Almeida will be demonstrating tapestry weaving in the gallery from 1 to 3 p.m. Additional fiber-focused fun will be happening outside at the mini-art fair all day long. More fiber demos will take place later in the summer with Rachel Montroy on July 16 and Breanne Marie Sherwood on Aug. 27.
