Belleville veterans are “feeling the loss” with the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday.

Immediate Past Chair of the Belleville Veterans’ Association, Steve Shirk,  tells Quinte News that all the veterans and associated services feel a great loss with the passing of the “monarchy, the Queen.”

“A total surprise for us and it’s going to be a total loss to everyone that has known her so well and we’ll miss her in the future.”

Referring to King Charles the third, Shirk commented.

“Hopefully he lives up to his mother’s standards. and carries on for the goodness of the commonwealth and for the goodness of Canada, and a support to all our veterans.”

The Veterans Council represents  a number of local military associations, including the Belleville Legion, 418 Wing Canadian Air Force Association, Belleville Army Navy and Air Force Association, Hastings and Prince Edward Regiments, and the Afghanistan Motorcycle Unit.

Shirk says it also has a close relationship with 8 Wing at CFB Trenton.
